This post shows all the best images we took at city hall, edited down from 500 images. The images have been put into categories, as an easier way to show them and for our convenience when editing.

Dancing Shots
For the city hall shoot we really wanted to show the atmosphere of a northern soul night, to do this we really utilised the disco floor at the location, during the shoot we had music playing to encourage our models to dance, we told them to dance how they would if they were out and we also gave them some northern soul moves to try. We wanted the dancing to look natural and authentic. We got a few different angles of most shots as we liked to see how the positioning of the camera changed the composition of the photos.

Group Shots   These shots are more staged than the dancing images, we separated these from the group dancing images as we thought these images more showed the feelings and connections northern soul creates. The intimacy in some of these images shows the strength of the friendships made through soul music.

Individual Shots

These images capture just one model per shot, we wanted these to focus more on the styling of the shoot and we wanted the individual shots to show more of the feeling side of the shoot. The dancing and group shots from this shoot show the physical side of the concept, being at a Northern Soul night and listening to the music, and being with your friends, however we wanted these ones to focus more on the experience of letting go and breaking off from the reality around you, we wanted the poses to look thoughtful yet free, as if the model was detached and alone with their thoughts and feelings.

Location Shots

We took these images as a way to focus the atmosphere of the location, and the atmosphere of a soul night. We wanted the images to be focussed on the bright colours and lights of the room, mimicking a northern soul club and symbolising the effect of drugs and music on the mind, creating a fictional reality in your mind.
