Our Final Film

Northern Soul Film 

^This is the link to our groups final completed concept film. We wanted our film to be a concept movie, using it to show the same feelings and concept as our images, we have used similar design styles while creating the film as our final images, we included layering, text and unrealistic colours as we wanted them to link together and so the film can act as a sort of visual explanation for the images. The film also acts as a styling video, the shots we picked focus a lot on the clothes used during the shoots we wanted to make sure the importance of fashion in Northern Soul was highlighted alongside our concept, as well as showing of the clothes we picked and styled. 

We shot the footage for the film at the same time as shooting the images, we wanted the film to feel natural hence filming the models while they posed and danced for the images, this way the filming didn't look stiff or acted, it felt natural and off guard. We also did this so the film would have the same locations, lighting and atmosphere as the images making sure they look like a completed series together. 

The majority of the film is about concept and styling without much literal explanation, we wanted it to focus on the visual side, we hand picked the subtitles we added from the list of northern soul songs I researched, making sure to pick ones that highlight the feelings and emotions we want to portray about a Northern soul night. At the end of the movie we got asked our models for specific words that to them describe the feeling music and the atmosphere music brings. Adding this in at the end gives the film more personal feel and I feel it humanises the concept and feelings we are trying to show, throughout the film it is all about the loss of reality and the escape, the shorts clips of words at the end show that this was real and that real people experience these feelings.
